From Class:
–Diversity + Inclusion: This is important because we want to make sure that every student is being included and not feeling left out of things. Understanding their backgrounds and experiences of each student will also help the teacher connect better with that student.
-Time Management: We talked a good amount about time management in the class room. I think its important to have good time management because it allows the teacher to get through everything and allows the students to be able to have enough time to grasp the skills and concepts being taught. It also will help improve classroom management I say this because the classroom will just run more smoothly.
-Classroom Management: this is important because it focuses on creating an environment where the students feel that they are respected and valued. This allows the teacher to establish a positive teacher to student relationship, which can also help with behavioral problems and promote a more productive learning space.
-Active learning: This helps get students more engaged in their lessons because they are actively doing something they are doing hands on experiments and so they become active participants in their own learning. This engagement keeps them motivated and interested which can lead to better understanding of the material.
-Self Improvement: This is important for teachers to always make sure they are changing and learning as well. In class I feel that we emphasized on the importance of self reflecting to just reflect on the teaching methods that you used and reflect on how engaged the students were during a lesson and to make sure you are continuously improving and learning.
From Village Project:
-Meet them Where they are at: All students learn at different paces. What I mean by this is that their was this girl that I was helping was having trouble spelling words and when sounding them out would skip over words or sounds. So I had to remind her to slow down and make sure we sound out every letter in our word. But then their is this little boy in the class who doesn’t have to pay attention as much or work as had and does very well academically. He is one that does not have to try as hard as some of the other kids, so he tends to get bored sometimes when the teacher is doing whole class activities on the front board.
– Self Improvement: I saw this towards the end of class the teacher I was with changed her end of the day routine to make the kids more calm for the end of the day and had them sit on the carpet, instead of being up and about making them more energetic.
– I took away that not letting one kid distract you from teaching the entire class. What I mean by this is that my teacher had one student that was special needs and would like to come up to her and talk to her while giving instructions, or he would like to talk loudly to the student aid teacher. Which as first was very distracting to me but my teacher I was with didn’t let that phase her she kept giving the instructions and when she was done she gave her attention to him. Because she didn’t give him attention more did the students.
– I took away that you need to be flexible. There were many times that we had to shorten up what we were doing because of the time, or we didn’t get to everything. The teacher I was with never seemed to stress about not getting to everything, and was very flexible. She naturally had a plan of what she was doing when the time was starting to run out.
-I took away that it is important to build student relationships. I say this because creating that relationship build trust and safety. It allows the students to feel comfortable in the classroom to be involved in what we are doing.
